Missing Mitu
It is with deep sadness that I inform you that our dear friend and spirited heroine is no longer of this world. Mitu Kurana was a force to reckon with and refused to back down despite the hardships, the deception, and the toll it took on her health. She died in March after heart surgery. I truly feel that Mitu died of a broken heart.
She was known around the world for her tireless struggle in her protection of the Daughters of India. She never once gave up hope that justice would be won. She continued to struggle against all odds.
I met Mitu on a blog article that I had posted several years ago. We stayed in touch until I went to India and met with her and her twin daughters in New Delhi. She told me her story which was recorded and is available for viewing on YouTube. I created this blog as a bookmark for the dozens of articles and videos on Mitu.
I had always hoped that I would return to India one day and spend time with Mitu; she graciously offered her home to me several times.
The best way to honor Mitu to is to continue to support her work by researching, speaking out, and being the light that she was for India, for the world, and for India’s daughters.

Dr. Mitu Khurana
Thank you for sharing this very sad news with us. I learned of dear Mitu years ago and the sad ordeal she endured at the hands of her “family”. Having lived in India for several years, i would see many ‘Mitus’ .. who had a voice thanks to the important voice that Mitu lent to this scenario that still plays out. Thank you for this valuable site to educate the world on this issue. With loving condolences for the loss of our dear sister…
Thank you for your message, Carol. Yes, Mitu’s stance for justice helped other women feel encouraged and empowered to speak out. I spoke with some of them while in India, as well as with men who are also victims, mostly related to arranged marriage.
I hope Mitu’s voice will continue to reach others via the many interviews, and the articles written about this extraordinary woman, mother, daughter and teacher.
It is heart breaking to hear that Dr Meetu is no more. She was an inspiration to millions. Hope her girls are doing well.
Thank you for your sympathy, Sunita. She was indeed an incredible inspiration to the world, and left an extraordinary legacy to her daughters.
This is absolutely heartbreaking to hear…Such a strong woman with such an amazing purpose. What Dr. Mitu fought for affects every single person on this earth, not just females. Gendercide robs us all. Any one of those girls killed could have grown up to find a cure for cancer. Every one of those lives lost was a loss of potential…Dr. Mitu will be missed but the fight will continue.
Thank you for your comment, Melanie. Mitu was indeed an extraordinary woman! Her inspiration lives on in her daughters and in women around the world.
